This 20-week beginner marathon program begins with 150 minutes (approximately 25 kilometers) per week and reaches a maximum of 360 minutes (approximately 58 kilometers) per week, with four running days per week. If you are a complete beginner to running, give yourself 20 weeks of additional preparation before this program. All runs except certain workouts are measured in minutes (with approximate weekly kilometers) because time is more important than the number of kilometers.
The program is divided into four 4-week cycles and two 2-week cycles, with a seamless transition from one cycle to the next.
